Name is Chris, I am from Crosby, Texas. Crosby is located on the North Eastern outlaying skirts of Houston. I am 21 as of last month, currently deployed in Iraq. I have owned an 98' S-10 and a 98 Z71 both blue. Currently drive a 98 v-6 Camaro to save gas. I had traded my Z71 (12.5 mpg) for the car about 2-2 1/2 years ago. Currently saving deployment money in hopes to buy an F-250. For the past year I have read and bought just about every diesel truck magazine they sell at the local PX.
Althought most don't give the price of work that is done and ads alone tell you the price of the product but not the labor if you don't do it yourself, such as lifts. I will have $10,000 roughly saved for upgrade purposes on the truck I buy. Wondering what suggestions anyone might have. I plan on going to the shop that was mentioned in one of the magazines. The father/son shop in Northwest Houston.
My ideal plan would consist of the pillar guages as #1 recommended from the magazine. #2 being I want the 6.0 to get the faulty problem fixed that the commonly have. #3 an upgraded intake and programmer. #4 Other possible engine upgrades other might suggest, then after that I plan on lifting the truck somewhere around 12 inches, larger brakes, and 38's wrapped around 20 inch wheels probably both MT MTZ or ATZ's. I'll have another $7,500 a few months after I get home in April that was a bonus I recieved from the Army, any and all suggestions would be beneficial

Hi Christopher, Thanks for everything you're doing for us!
I think you have a good plan forming. What got you into diesel trucks?

When I was younger I used to call them "High Jacked" trucks referring to lifted trucks lol....Monster Jam, Four Wheeling, and just going to the beach got me into them. I just can't wait to get one. I have only ever rode in two diesel trucks. One was a buddy my senior year, he had a huge lift on it and I just liked being up high and the power of a diesel. The other time was my friends mom needed me to go to the gas station to pick something up for her so i drove her excursion and i loved it. So for over a year now I guess I have just had an obsession with them. I have an obsession with older cars also, but i plan on using this one in the future to haul my older car around once I get it also. That will be after my next deployment though and I get the money for that lol.
Anyways I was talking to an older guy this morning and he said I should look into getting a standard due to chips and stuff destroying automatics within a few months due to the power. Is this true? Or is there a tranny upgrade for automatics that I can look into. I like standard cars, but not trucks lol.
Chris

If you boost your power you will definitely get to a point where the transmission can't handle it anymore. But there are plenty of companies willing to help you solve that problem. See Suncoast, ATS, and other advertisers in 8-Lug.

Jaret (and anyone reading this), Send a photo of your truck, along with information about it, and include your name and city/state to bob.carpenter@sorc.com. I'll put it in our Reader's Rides section (named Bragging Rights).

Hi everyone my name is Joe and Im from the Orange County area of Southern California. I have a 2008 GMC Duramax and love this truck. I use it to tow some of my old muscle cars while still being able to take my Real Estate clients around since it has such a nice interior (multi-task truck). Such a great truck it does everything I need all while getting over 20 MPG on the freeway. I have talked to Bob Carpenter a couple times and think you guys have an awesome magazine! Recently saw my buddy Mike's Black Chevy made the cover truck for June with some great photos and article!
I am also a member from SoCal Diesel Trucks, a large all make diesel truck club in Southern California. For those interested in our club here are some more details: http://forums.8-lug.com/70/8197784/truck-clubs/socal-diesel-trucks/index.html
Thanks guys! Joe

Hi everyone, My name is Ben. I live in Anza, CA. My wife and I have a used 2006 Ford F350,SD,CC, XLT, 4x4 Dually, with a 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel. The previous owner installed an AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Induction System on it. Four MKW M26 Wheels and 2 Stock Rims, Raised 4 to 6 inches, 6 ProComp Xtreme A/T 37x13.50x17 tires. Thanks to the article in 8-Lug Magazine you saved me over 400 dollars, because I was going to have to change out the AFE with a K&N because of the ARB O.E. business. Thanks Ben Sawbridge

Hey, I'm Sean.28yrs old, from Saskatchewan,up here in Canada. My newest addition is a 2010 Dodge 3500 Laramie. Its almost got all the bells & whistles.(30gig HDD without NAV, & no wi-fi/internet hotspot service). Lots of chrome plus a bit more yet to come. No performance mods yet, waiting for Gale Banks to unveil new stuff for the 6.7L. Well I've owned a whack of diesel trucks since I was 16yrs old, 1st diesel was an '81 GMC w/ the dreaded 5.7L diesel, 90 6.2L GM 2wd,a couple '92 6.2L 4x4's(still have/use both), '92 Dodge ext cab,'95 GMC 6.5L 4x4,a '98 6.5L Z71, '03 Dodge 3500 Laramie crew cab,an '05 GMC Ext cab w/ 6" Pro comp lift/etc. I fell in love w/ diesels because back when I owned my 1st couple; diesel was 1/2 the price of gas, went twice as far on a tank & the equipment lasted twicw as long as the gas trucks. There were only 3 cons to the early diesels when compared to their gas counterpart...1/winter,2/winter & 3/winter. Repairs were twice as much too, but they didn't break down so whatever. I like sites like these because I like to read about amazing feats of engineering(from a backyard POV) and a guy can usually teach & learn at least 1 thing to/from every owner.
