'93 D250 Cummins Tranny

I have a '93 Dodge 4x4 Cummins with the Gertrag 5spd. The tranny is on it's last legs, very noisy in 4th & 5th gear. Are there any reasonable cost options in replacing this unit or am I better off just rebuilding it? I am not adverse to an automatic if it greatly simplifies things.
Thanks in advance

Depends on who you ask. Some diesel guys think automatics are the way to go, but there are others that are fans of manuals. I don't know if you'd save much money buying a new transmission over getting it rebuilt. Most "new" transmissions are re-builds anyway. Seems like zbag.com has pretty favorable ratings in most diesel enthusiast forums. They should have most of the components you'd need for a rebuild, or sell you a rebuilt trans.
