I have a 2001 Ford Super Duty pick up. I saw an article in another magazine, July, 2010, Diesel Tech (the cover article, Long Live the King), about a 2001 Ford Super Duty truck similar to mine. The owner swapped the original tailgate with a tailgate from a 2008 Super Duty to improve the appearance. My tailgate is bowed and caved in from driving something too heavy over it and it needs replacing. I believe that in 2008 Ford had an internal step and grab bar in the tailgate. That would immensely help entry into the bed of the truck. Since I need to replace the tailgate anyways I'd like to replace it with the 2008 model tailgate with the factory step. My question is, does the newer tailgate bolt right up using the existing hardware or are there modifications needed and how hard are they to do? They look similar but I can't find anyone who knows if this is a direct bolt on replacement or not.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Tom
